Young & Rubicam Signs On to the Campaign

Award-winning advertising agency RKCR/Y&R— the London affiliate of the Young & Rubicam Network — is lending its creative services to the Campaign to End Fistula. The agency has developed a series of print, television and electronic ad materials to help raise awareness of fistula among the British public. On 27 June, 2006, UNFPA and RKCR/Y&R launched this month-long advertising campaign at a press conference in London. Featured panelists included CEO of RKCR/Y&R, James Murphy.

“The decision to work on the Fistula Campaign was simple,” says Murphy. “Fistula devastates the lives of millions of women, yet a simple surgery that costs under $300 can totally reverse this unbelievable suffering and restore a woman’s dignity. How could we not help?”

Based on the success of the UK ad campaign, UNFPA partnered with RKCR/Y&R on a similar effort in Belgium. The ad campaign was unveiled at a launch event on 26 April 2007.  Ad materials appeared across Brussels throughout the month of May 2007.

RKCR/Y&R has a track record of working on women’s health and rights issues. The agency has produced thought provoking yet sensitive creative materials for clients such as Womankind and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
