How to portray fistula survivors

Fistula survivors are women who experienced prolonged, obstructed labour and developed obstetric fistula.

Fistula survivors and advocates are fistula survivors who, after treatment , work as advocates to raise awareness about the problem.

When portraying obstetric fistula survivors and advocates, it is crucial to highlight the links between obstetric fistula and maternal health in general, helping empower, not victimize them.
