About 228 Liberian fistula survivors receive training in 2012.   UNFPA supports the treatment and rehabilitation of fistula patients in Liberia Sixteen Liberian fistula survivors recently graduated with occupation and trade skills from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Fistula Rehabilitation and Reintegration Center (FRRC). They learned soap, tie&dye and pastry production techniques, as well as skills in tailoring and cosmetology. The fistula survivors also received startup kits worth about $500, mobile phones and $100 each to help them integrate back into their communities after fistula treatment. Dr. Mulbah said that, so far, 950 fistula patients had access to surgery in the country, with the government of Liberia and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) covering all expenses. Prior to this batch of graduates, 212 fistula survivors had also been trained in the same skills.  Read the Daily Observer. Read other highlights of the coverage on fistula.
