10th Anniversary Edition
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Campaign to End Fistula, this edition of Dispatch showcases the important work and dedication of the many professionals who have given their lives and careers to raise awareness about fistula, as well as help increase access to prevention, treatment and social reintegration.
Their efforts to alleviate the suffering of fistula patients worldwide and improve maternal health in affected countries have garnered the attention of policymakers, health officials, and communities globally during the past decade.
In order to create more awareness and secure additional support for the ongoing fight against fistula, the UN recently designated 23 May as the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, to be observed for the first time in 2013, as a part of the Campaign's 10th anniversary.
The report, recently released by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, calls for systematic notification of fistula cases and the creation of national registers to ensure proper care, follow up and support for all fistula patients.
