Voices of Fistula Survivors

open www.womendeliver.org

Every minute of every day, a woman dies giving life. For every woman who dies, 20 or more suffer debilitating injuries like obstetric fistula.

A landmark global conference in October 2007 focussed on building political will to curb pregnancy-related death and disability. Delegates from 109 countries included cabinet ministers, heads of UN and other mulitlateral agencies, senior government officials, health professionals, economists and researchers.

As part of the Campaign to End Fistula, UNFPA sponsored the participation of six fistula survivors from Africa in the Women Deliver conference. Each woman had an opportunity to share her story in panels, plenaries, side events and media interviews.
